Klub Afriko organizes your safari based on your accommodation
and venue preferences. You can stay in luxury tented camps, National Park lodges, or camp
in the bush. We can take you to any or all of the following National Parks: Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Serengeti, Arusha and
Kilimanjaro, and the Ngorongoro
Crater (Ngorongoro Conservation Area). From our years of experience we
can suggest various itineraries, but ultimately the decisions are yours.
Sample Itineraries:
1. 10 Day Serengeti Safari
2. 7 Day Northern Park Hiking Safari
3. 3 Day Ngorongoro Crater Safari
4. Luxury Tented Camp Safari (with flight to Serengeti)
I. 10 Day Serengeti Safari
Day 1 - Arrive in Arusha. KLM is the only international carrier to fly into
Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA). Thus,
if you choose another carrier, you would fly into Dar es Salaam or Nairobi. Nairobi is a quick 4-hour car ride to Arusha (we
can arrange a ticket for you on a non-stop shuttle bus, or we can pick you up in Nairobi
and personally transport you to Arusha). If
you fly into Dar, we will arrange your domestic flight to Arusha or Kilimanjaro airports. The flights usually leave Dar in the early
afternoon, so your arrival time into Dar would determine whether you spend the night in
Dar or Arusha.
In Arusha, we would put you up in the
Klub Afriko Hotel - we have 8 lovely, private bungalows, excellent cuisine in our dining
room, friendly bar with satellite TV, a library in which to relax
all in a quiet
neighborhood just outside of Arusha town.
Day 2-3 - Start your safari in Tarangire National Park (2 hours from Arusha). It
is famous for a high density of elephants and huge baobab trees. It is less frequented by tourists, so it gives you
space to breathe and really observe wildlife without other vehicles disturbing you. It is a truly wild place - a great introduction to
the bush. The tented lodge we recommend is
situated on a rise over the Tarangire River. You
can sit on the verandah perched on the edge, get a cocktail or coffee, and watch the herds
of animals making their way to and from the river for their afternoon drink.
*** NOTE: We used to include Lake
Manyara on this itinerary. However, Lake
Manyara has been flooded for more than a year now. The
majority of the game driving tracks are under water and most of the wildlife have migrated
to other areas. You can still do a short game
drive in the Park and you can still see some buffalo, elephant and other wildlife. But you can easily see the Park and move on to
another venue on the same day. However, there
is much to do in this area. You can take a
fascinating cultural-walking tour of the nearby village of Mto-wa-Mbu. This area has the largest number of different
ethnic groups living and farming together. You
can meet different kinds of people and see a bit of their way of life.
Day 4 - Move on to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
You ascend the Crater and look out over this Wonder of the World... but
let's save the visit for later. You will
drive down the northeast side of the mountain out onto the southernmost plains of the
Serengeti ecosystem. These are the grasslands
you've seen and read about, full of gazelle, other antelope, jackals, hyenas, cheetah,
ostrich, and other grazers. You can stay near
Lake Ndutu (at the lodge or camping) which is located in a gorgeous Acacia woodland area
with spectacular sunsets. This is another
well-kept secret of the Northern Parks - private, peaceful and something out of Africa.
Day 5-7 - You are on the border of the Serengeti National Park, so after breakfast you'll
be game driving and enter the Park. With three full days, you have enough time to explore
different areas of this vast wild land, like Grumeti river with its huge crocodiles, the
central Seronera river with the largest resident population of animals in East Africa, or
even up north to Lobo with the mysterious rock kopjes and woodlands.
Day 8 - As you drive out of the
Serengeti, back into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, you can stop at the famous Olduvai Gorge and explore this archaeological
treasure and visit the museum. See
pre-history in front of you, imagine hominids living here, and see evidence of the unusual
precursor species they hunted. Finish the day
by ending up on the Ngorongoro Crater rim to
stay the night.
Day 9 - As the early morning mist
disappears up into the sky, descend into the Crater.
It is hard to describe the sensation of entering this huge caldera, so alive
with wildlife. It houses the largest density
of predators in the world and you realize this within a short time. The bird life is rich and plentiful and you are
continually surprised by what you see. Some
of the largest elephants in East Africa roam the yellow Acacia forest. And, of course, the rare black rhinos can be found
out on the plains- they are well protected by a top-notch anti-poaching force. Spend the day game viewing, with a picnic lunch
near the lake. As dusk unfolds, you ascend
the Crater wall and enjoy an amazing sunset on the rim;
either at the campsite or one of the lodges perched right on the rim.
Day 10 - Make your way back to Arusha by lunchtime. You can either spend the rest of the day and night
there, shopping for curios and art works, admiring the famous beadwork of the Maasai
women, and exploring this bustling town. Or,
we'll get you to Nairobi, Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar, depending on your schedule.
Optional: You can
save time driving on the hard roads of Tanzania by flying one-way to or from the
Serengeti. This allows you one more full day
out in the bush moving among herds of elephants or antelope, instead of dodging potholes! The flight is less than 2 hours and our cars will
be waiting for you at the airstrip. Price -
$150 per person each way.
Cost (based on a
party of 4 people):
$2,400 per person staying in the
moderate Park lodges
$1,400 per person camping at the
National Park public campsites

II.
7 Day Northern Parks Hiking Safari
You can do a shorter version of the
10-day safari, and/or you can add some hiking to the program if you wish. There are some great places for a walking safari,
but they are limited. The general rule is
that there is not walking in the National Parks, except under certain circumstances.
Day 1 - Stretch your legs and spend the day
hiking and game viewing in Arusha National Park. This is one of the few NP in Tanzania in which
you can hike and walk outside of the campsites (in other Parks, you must stay in the
vehicle). Here, you can walk a bit up Mt.
Meru, passing by herds of zebra, buffalo, and giraffe on the savannah, hike up to the
cloud forest or as far as you want. Enjoy a
picnic lunch gazing out at Mt. Kilimanjaro. You
can also game drive around the different habitats in this truly beautiful Park (lowland
forest, marshland, montane forest, etc.). There
are black and white colobus monkeys (unique to this Park in northern TZ), Sykess and
vervet monkeys, shy forest duikers, leopards, and substantial herds of antelope. Accommodation at Klub Afriko Hotel for the night.
Day 2 - On to Tarangire National Park. We recommend Naitolia Tented Camp - a quiet,
luxury camp just outside the border of Tarangire. Because
it is outside the Park, you can take walking safaris in the bush (with an armed guide) and
night game drives. There are only 8 tents so
it is a very private and peaceful camp - except for the occasional wild visitors! You can easily spend 2 days here, game driving in
Tarangire and surrounding areas and just relaxing in the camp.
Day 3 - Drive to the Ngorongoro Crater rim, stopping at the village of
Mto-wa-Mbu near Lake Manyara. You can take a
fascinating cultural-walking tour of this town, which boasts the largest number of ethnic
groups in one area. Visit farms and see
different ways of life for a number of tribes from all over Tanzania. You can stop for lunch at the famous Gibbs
Farm and get to the Ngorongoro Crater in time for the sunset.
Day 4 - All day in the Crater. Late
afternoon, make your way to the Serengeti for the night.
Day 5-6 - Serengeti
National Park
Day 7 - Fly back to Arusha by 10:00 am.
You could add another day to the Serengeti to really make the most of 7 full
days.
Cost (based on a party of 4):
$1,700 per person
staying in the moderate Park lodges
$1,100 per person
camping at the National Park public campsites
Includes
· All National Park and Ngorongoro
Conservation Area fees (camping and entrance);
· All ground transportation in Tanzania,
including airport transfers;
· 4-WD safari equipped vehicle and
professional driver/guide;

safari) while on safari;

Day 3

game drives. Because they only accommodate
8-20 clients at a time, we must make the bookings at least 5 months in advance. Recommended camps and luxury hotels/lodges for a 10-Day Safari would be:
